This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Number sense is at risk! Students today need to re-claim how to solve problems in their heads. Building a strong foundation in my class is how they will accomplish that!

The students in my school are 80% economically disadvantaged and most speak a different language at home.

Our students move around quite a bit, so many of their parents do not even supply our classes with the necessary school supplies for their own children. It is difficult, but not impossible!

My Project

My students lack basic number sense and through daily practice of these skills they will increase their understanding. Every day math is all around them, they just don't always see it. From grocery shopping, to cooking, to paying monthly bills...they will need these basic math skills for a lifetime. I want them to be able to be productive and successful. We will do basic calculations every day using these dry erase boards.

I am in an open-concept classroom (no walls or door) with limited supplies and activities.

Through using dry-erase boards every day, we are not using paper to practice things that we don't need to keep, saving supplies and the Earth. It is a quiet way for me to check all answers when they can write it big enough for me to see all answers at once! My students will be happy and engaged to practice the tedious task of basic math calculations in this novel and fun way.
