My students need tissues, floor cleaner, muffin pans, cooling rack, measuring spoons, measuring cups and a hand mixer for daily living skills and learning.
"Good Things Come to Those Who Bake." ~unknown. Including life skills into a child's day could help to mold their future and let them know their is always opportunity for success.
Our school is a title one school surrounded by rolling country hills with many beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
Our district consists of 3 buildings with a total population of under 1,000 students. Our students are eager to learn and we are always looking for opportunities to offer our students to be the best that they can be. In our room we like to offer daily living skill activities. The students love to bake and give back to others. With every reading lesson their is always a baking activity that can follow. The students are learning and having fun at the same time. They love the hands on activities. They also like to be able to share with others what they have made and explain the baking behind it. These activities bring out interest and many smiles.
My Project
The students will use these materials to complete baking activities after many of our lessons. They will use the floor cleaner to clean up after themselves. The measuring cups, spoons, mixer, cooling rack and muffin tins will be used to make the actual product. Many days we are bringing in items from our homes to use with the students. It would be wonderful to have a classroom supply so that we can leave items right in our room. The students may realize they have a passion for baking. With these materials the students will be able to read a recipe, create their own recipe, follow directions, learn simple math (fractions, adding, subtracting, sequencing, etc) Students will learn safety for using a hand mixer. They will be learning a life skill that they will be able to use forever. With these few items, students can learn to make muffins, cupcakes, breakfast cakes, lunch snacks, healthy muffins and more.
This project will improve our classroom because the materials will be at our fingertips.
We will not have to search as to where we need to get the supplies from. This will help to change the students lives by giving them opportunity to learn a life skill that is a part of their daily living. They will learn how baking can become a simple act of kindness and sharing and how to create healthy snacks. They will be reading, following directions, learning safety for baking and be proud of their work.
