My Students

My students love coming to school each day. They are eager to learn and excited to do fun and interesting activities. Many of their parents are immigrants; therefore, most of my students are English Language Learners.

Some of the kids live in the neighborhood, but a large percentage of them commute to school from across town, because their families want them to be in a safer, higher performing school.

At school, we focus on academic achievement, but we also make a huge effort to provide many opportunities in music, visual arts, performing arts, science, technology, and sports.

My Project

Competing with tablets, smartphones, and laptop computers are almost a no-win situation for teachers. Kids need constant stimulation to keep them motivated and focused at school. Simply providing lots of great books for children to read and exposing students to wonderful literature during Read Aloud time isn't enough anymore.

Kids need colorful, well organized, interesting text to capture their attention and teach them the skills they need to become avid, proficient readers.

The materials in this project will offer a wide range of daily literacy activities that test students' comprehension skills and promote fluency.

The Partner Scripts and Readers' Theater Script Boxes will give children the opportunity to work cooperatively.

English language learners will be exposed to multiple-meaning words, idioms, and homophones when using the Tricky Words & Phrases Teaching Cards.

Every student will develop strategies to decipher new vocabulary words, as well as learn how to answer challenging comprehension questions, after spending time with the Vocabulary Practice Cards and the Paired Passages folders.
