This year I have the pleasure of introducing forty third graders to the power of reading and writing! It is the first week of school, and they are already showing me how excited and motivated they are to learn. More than anything- these kids LOVE books!
In our classroom, we know that reading can take us anywhere!
We will be traveling the world this year through different books, authors, and genres of text.
My students are eager to learn and excited to discover the wonder of reading and the power of writing. Help us dive into new cultures, experience different places, and learn about other people all while we become great readers and writers!
My Project
This year, we are using the Daily Five to structure our literacy block. The Daily Five is a research-based approach that encourages independence and accountability by promoting choice. This framework creates highly engaged readers and writers.
The pillar of the Daily Five is choice.
As an educator, I am just a facilitator; the students navigate their own learning by taking accountability of what goals they set and how they work towards those goals. Research shows that reading and writing stamina and engagement increase when students are comfortable( i.e. not in hard desks). By having bean bag chairs, carpets, and pillows, students can find a spot to settle in and work comfortably. Flexible seating allows students to find a comfortable space somewhere in the room, and focus on their learning.
Please help my students increase their autonomy and engage deeper in their learning by providing our class with flexible seating options!
