There are 24 students eager to learn in my kindergarten classroom. We are a public school with more than 40% free and reduced lunch. We are a full Title One school.
Students in my classroom are at varying academic levels and need access to many learning modalities to help meet the needs of all their levels.
After researching and learning about Daily 5 this school year, I feel it would be beneficial to implement it right away in our classroom. However, our already tight supply budget is gone for this school year. And honestly, there will not be enough money in the budget to order these supplies for next year either.
My Project
The students will use the listening center to listen to stories daily in our Daily 5 block. With this center, four students at a time can listen to one book. Whisper phones will be used for students to read to themselves using quiet voices. A class set of the whisper phones will allow each student to have his/her own as to not spread germs. The leveled reading books will be used to allow students access to books on their level to read. These books will be used in the reading to the teacher and read to self sections of the Daily 5.
We are just beginning to implement the Daily 5 framework into our kindergarten classroom, and these materials will help get it started.
We get a limited budget to purchase needed materials in our school. These items will allow students to become better readers by listening to text and practicing reading.
