My students need a variety of technology based experiences. We need cameras and accessories to extend the usefulness of my iPad.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Dabbling is the Art of Experimentation. Like sticking your toes in the water to see if it is warm, dabbling lets children try new things and have diverse learning experiences. In the Dabbling Unit my learners create end products such as PowerPoints, Art Displays, Cartoons and Photo Journals.
My learners are gifted and high achieving fifth grade students in a low income, socio-economically deprived neighborhood of a major urban metropolis in California.
They score well on state tests and have bright futures. They learn quickly and enjoy literature and mathematics. As a group they are highly verbal and enjoy group discussions. It is my responsibility to cover the basic curriculum as well as to expose them to many of the more sophisticated experiences our city has to offer. It is my goal to give them exposure to the arts and to develop their creative thinking skills as well as train them to be critical thinkers. In every lesson I plan to meet the standard and to provide a reach that will help them stretch their understandings.
My Project
I am constantly looking to expand the use of technology in the classroom. My recent acquisition of an iPAD will allow us to use apps that are specifically created for education. Being able to project the iPAD ensures that 30 learners can benefit at a time. Additionally, the stylus is another iPAD accessory. I see the children sharing their work with one another via the projection of the iPAD. The cameras are requested to enhance the "Dabbling" unit by having the children engage in the process of producing art, producing photographs in a "first hand" manner. I am envisioning several independent "photo journals" that tell a story with the creation of original work. Bringing "Primary Sources" to life. Learning to then critique their own work as photojournalists.
I am a veteran teacher who in years past left the DonorsChoose program to colleagues who could not afford to support their programs.
I always purchased whatever I wanted or needed. I have spent thousands of dollars on technology, books, class sets of literature, materials, support products. I find with the down turn in the economy, the change of the programs I work in and the cancellation of programs that supplemented my base salary, that I can no longer afford these luxuries for my classroom.
