My students need a Brother Scan and Cut with starter vinyl set to create student selected resources for our upcoming math and literacy units and to design and cut detailed enhancements for class books and games.
Do you know what makes our school the best place in the world? Other than the rock star teachers and creative little learners, it's the community that surrounds us. It's our classroom community, our school community and our small little community where we all live and support each other. My students come to school excited to learn about and explore their world every day! Our school is the only elementary school in our small town, so we really are a tight-knit family. That means if they need something, we work for it. If they make a mistake, they learn and grow from it. And if we can make our learning more meaningful and fun, we do it! Our students come to school excited to learn about and explore their world every day! However, back in August, many of our students and staff were exposed to a world they've never seen. Our community slowly began to disappear under water. Hurricane Harvey impacted many of our lives, but wouldn't know the loss by my the kiddos bright and shining faces you see each day, or the perseverance they show, or the kindness and friendship they pour from their hearts.
My Project
Our classroom supports 9 different, hands-on learning centers at any given time in order to give my students plenty of real-world situations to master the skills they are learning and to keep their interest throughout the year. Many of these resources take hours and hours to prepare. With the Brother Cut and Scan 2, I will be able to create resources they design or select at a rapid pace to meet their varying interests. One example where a cutting system would accelerate resources used in our learning: we are getting ready to begin our financial literacy unit where we set up a grocery store and shops throughout our classroom and the students will need to create items to fill those shops. I will be able to use their ideas to create content specific books and games which will enhance their learning about the value of money (price), denomination of coins, making change, wants and needs. We will also be able to incorporate vinyls to create goods to donate to our SPED program when we share our knowledge about basic financial literacy.
