With less than a month into school, my students have demonstrated day by day how mature they are. My students are in an inclusive classroom, it is also a split classroom. We have a few students from kindergarten, first graders, and diverse learners. One of our diverse learners has autism. For many of them it is their first experience ever of being in a school building. My students have shown how mature they are by quickly adapting with each other to the new setting they are in. In our conversations, at times, I can't believe they are only first graders because of how well they engage, even with harder to understand topics, such as Autism.
They are welcoming and appreciate each other's, visible and non-visible, differences.
My Project
With these materials I will be able to create personalized items for my students, which will allow social distancing in the classroom and to take home as needed. I will be able to create individual interactive activity kits for each student to use them for all school subjects. With this classroom material I can label to enhance their reading, make math manipulatives, or make arts and crafts.
These materials can also be used to create materials to communicate visual complex concepts and decorate the classroom to create a suitable classroom environment that would target their social-emotional needs.
