My students need a consistent reading program, in which the scan n cut allows me to make and use, year after year, all the pieces needed for teaching concepts, centers and exploration.
As a teacher in a low-income school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face each day, I am looking to keep things simple. I allow my students the chance to work with creative and meaningful learning tools that create experiences they don't forget!
My students come in each day ready to learn, excited to be at school, and curious about what our day has in store for them!
Our school is a Project Based Learning School that is in the middle of a transition from one building to another. Even with the looming changes, my students have remained engaged in their learning processes!
My 24 students are simply amazing. They are resilient and strong. They have the desire to learn and soak up all I can teach them. They are little sponges with big hearts. They are kind to one another and other students in our building. They are a blessing to teach.
My Project
My students will have six centers a day to explore, investigate and learn the concept that I am teaching. The pieces of the centers are for art, writing, math and literacy. The amount of time I am spending cutting out the materials can be drastically reduced with the Scan n Cut, allowing me more time to focus on the curriculum.
The books allow me to review or introduce the concept but more than that, they introduce the idea to my students that stories can be the transportation of the mind.
Stories can take you places whether they are fiction or nonfiction!
I am currently spending at least 20 hours of my own time on prep for the week ahead, not including lesson planning. The materials will be used for years to come, benefiting many more than just the 23 students I have now. Students need the opportunity to explore and be hands on in their learning!
