My Students

As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide a sparkling, engaging classroom with all the bells and whistles. I want my students to love their school and take pride in their classroom and have the tools they need to succeed.

My students are eager, energetic, and spontaneous.

They like to move, they love to read, and they crave positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." I may not be able to control their home lives, but I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic success. They are learning English as a second language.

My Project

My students are second language learners. They speak another language at home and are learning in English all day at school. A paper cutter like this along with color ink will afford my children a colorful look into learning. Sometimes it is difficult to describe and model objects in black and white. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work when they are given bright and colorful materials and models. They are more inclined to learn with models such as these.

The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional colorful models to make more effective learning.
