Cutting a Rug to GoNoodle and Building a Classroom Family
Help me give my students a large enough rug for everyone to sit comfortably and be able to share their interests and experiences to become a classroom family!
We are a public charter school in an inner-city neighborhood with very limited funding. 100% of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and many have faced more hardships than most of us, in which we couldn't even fathom. My 1st grade class is full of students who come to school every day eager to learn. They start exploring, trying new things while growing individually. There are many different abilities and skills in our class.
In our classroom, we are learning about each other so we can build a welcoming classroom community for everyone, despite the backgrounds we come from.
Learning and accepting differences in each other, helps our class become part of something, a family.
The morning​ meeting is how we start our day. We greet each other with a special greeting and get to share experiences, ideas, or just a fun fact about ourselves. This part of the day is really special and sets the day off .
My Project
My project is purchasing a rug for my class. This rug will not only help my students share space, but it will help them easily sit on the rug without feeling left out. Right now, the rug is way too small and students often fight over who sits on the rug and where. My students are visual learners so having a designated spot on the rug for them, will help them become more successful when transitioning to the rug.
Each student will have their own personal spot to sit and feel welcomed at the rug.
Even if we are rocking out to a GoNoodle, each student will have their own​ spot to stand and get their sillies out while rocking out.
Most of all, this rug will enhance our classroom community by having a meeting place that is comfortable and inviting! My students will love to come to a rug where they have their very own "space" they can call their own!
