Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Nothing is more exciting than going to school for the very first time. It is a time for exploring and time for a myriad of new experiences. Kindergarteners should be able to enjoy all the benefits of a warm and inviting environment regardless of their/our economic status.
The majority of my students come from single-parent households who speak little to no English.
They often struggle to provide them with the resources or the academic assistance to enhance their learning. Like all children, they have a strong desire to learn and grow.
My Project
Kindergarten is such a crucial year; it is the foundation that builds upon their affinity toward school in general. Scissors, pencils, tracing letter stamps, and TIME magazines are a few of the essential elements concomitant to a productive and successful year. These supplies will allow me to enrich their lives with projects that are fun, whilst teaching them to read, write, and cut.
In addition to the massive budget cuts to school districts, monies that were given to teachers for these basic supplies have been 100% eliminated.
I would hate to see these children suffer because they lack such basic materials. It is sad, and it is detrimental to their growth.
Edition K - 1 (Grades Kindergarten and 1) TIME For Kids is a weekly classroom newsmagazine that motivates kids to read. Our new K - 1 edition (geared towards Kindergarten and 1st grade) is a theme-based edition that helps build early literacy skills and gets students excited about reading.
