Cut, Color, and Create Civics

Help me give my students tools, such as markers, scissors and glue to make interactive Civics notebooks. Also, your donation will give my students white boards and buzzers for quiz review games, bringing the fun back to Civics.

My Project

My students are 7th graders and most of the families are from low socio-economic backgrounds. It is very important to me that they understand how our government works so they can intelligently participate in our Democracy. I love to see my students have fun and get excited to learn about our government. If you know any middle school aged children, they can be hard to engage. Recently, I have discovered some activities that my students love. They love to color, cut and create interactive notebooks. They also love the quiz games with buzzers and whiteboards. Since my school is transitioning to a block schedule next year, these resources will help implement my new teaching strategies using stations.

I will use these resources to make my student workstations more exciting and engaging, which will increase student mastery of Civics content.

Each station will have a different assignment related to the topic covered that day. Students will work for about 25 minutes at each station. One station will work with interactive worksheets and students will color, cut and create interactive notebooks. Another station will have several laptops and students will work on student paced online assignments I created. The headphones will be very helpful in allowing students to work quietly on the computer while the class works at the various stations. My third station will activities for writing and vocabulary. The last station will have students working hands on with me. At my workstation, I will review, check for understanding and work hands on with students on past work.
