This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My preschoolers are from a small, low-income, agricultural town in California. Our preschool program is "blended" which means we have a mix of children with identified disabilities and children without disabilities learning together in the classroom. This model works well to give our student’s appropriate social/peer models, as well as teach our students understanding, kindness, and patience.

Our preschoolers with and without disabilities all receive materials to keep their young minds engaged while Distance Learning.

Our students are attending classes and receiving services over Zoom through distance learning and have materials sent home to them every 2 weeks to use over Zoom along with their teachers.

We have 23 students who have one or more disabilities (Autism, Speech and Language Impairment, Physical Impairments, Other Health Impairments, Spina Bifida) and more being assessed each month. More than 50% of our student population is learning English as a second language and more than half of our student's families qualify for Reduced or Free Lunch.

My Project

While our preschool is teaching through distance learning, we have been sending materials home so that our students have more interaction with their learning experience, rather than just watching their teachers over a screen.

By donating to my project, you will be providing my students materials to use at home while Distance Learning.

I would love to send our students home with safety scissors with plastic blades. These type of scissors are perfect for first time scissor users and will be great practice to learn about safety, fine motor development, and having fun cutting up play dough.

I would also like to send home color mixing paddles to each student. These, when held up to the light and overlapped, show how combing colors creates new colors! A concept that is not only magical to a preschooler, but critical in future art endeavors.

The last item I am asking for is an activity to use over video lessons to engage my students. We love The Very Hungry Caterpillar book and read it often in the Spring time. I would love to have a visual for this book so while we read, we can build a tower of story characters.
