Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach art to over 700 kids in grades K-5th each week. The students at my school come from a variety of backgrounds and ethnicities. We have students from many different countries. Many don't speak English and are economically disadvantaged. Despite this, my students come to class eager and ready to learn.
My students are passionate about art and science.
They love using their imagination and creativity to come up with original and unique projects. Art also provides them the opportunity to learn more about themselves and make the world a more beautiful place.
My Project
Even though we are still recovering from Hurricane Harvey, and many in our community are still rebuilding, my students come to school eager to learn and ready to try new things. This year I want to introduce a Makerspace for my students.
A Cricut machine would help my students learn how to design logos, create unique cutouts, and create 3D pieces of art.
In our Makerspace, students will learn how how to design labels and logos by studying different types of fonts and color schemes. Students can use the vinyl sheets to print out their designs and label their lockers, binders, or cloths. This will help them understand that art can be created and used in fun, and personal ways. Also this machine can be used to help students print out cutouts that can be used to create 3D pieces of art. This will help incorporate engineering principles into our art room. Lastly, a Cricut will help my students design posters and other school related items throughout the year.
Art is a field that has endless possibilities. I want my students to understand that they can use their creativity in different ways than just sitting down with a piece of paper. This Cricut will help me teach students that they can use technology to pursue making many new types of creations.
