This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
This summer my library suffered from the perfect storm of heat, humidity and hidden spores. Between the end of the school year and the end of July, mold bloomed in every part of the library. While the school board has hired awesome people to rid the library of mold, all of my soft items-- including the rugs, are no longer safe for us to use. They are focusing on the flooring itself, which will be all new.
As I look around with librarian eyes, I am thinking about having places for floor sitting- which is not only useful for the littles during storytime, but also for my big kids to enjoy.
They love to take their books and sit on the rug during check out. Sometimes, they even go sit on the floor during small group work.
Fresh, safe rugs are one way to return my library to a welcoming place at the heart of the school.
