My Project
My students are energetic, good-natured, amiable and have a curiosity for learning. They also have learning disabilities and/or communication disorders which negatively impact their ability to succeed academically. My speech therapy room provides a safe space where my students can learn while remaining authentically themselves. We have a round table where we gather to read, listen, and watch videos of story books as well as fiction and nonfiction texts. Then we have collaborative discussions and engage in writing and creative activities about the stories we read. Many of my students are performing at a poor or insufficient academic level. They struggle with reading, have difficulty understanding and expressing language, and misunderstand social cues.
In order to spark more student interest and support my students in all subject areas, they need diverse and relevant resources.
For this reason, I am requesting a subscription to Scholastic Magazine, which is a great resource for students to learn about current events and be engaged with the world around them. Scholastic magazine is filled with colorful visuals of informational texts which improves student’s comprehension. It also comes with digital resources such as audio text. I have seen how current and relevant material can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that this additional resource will help them grow even more!
