My Students

Nestled in a rural West Virginia community sits my small, yet devoted, high school. My students have diverse backgrounds which lead to some wide gaps between their interests and abilities. Some of my students may be given various opportunities to read and be introduced to literature, while others have families that do not truly value education or feel as if time should be spent doing other things.

Some of my students may never find a book that interests them if they are not given one at school, which is what pushes me to incorporate new and interesting texts into my class each year.

I believe it is my job to inspire them to think beyond our school and show them that reading doesn't have to be a chore! Making sure my students perform well on a standardized test may help them now, and I make sure to incorporate my standards daily, but a love for reading is something that will follow them and help them for the rest of their lives.

My Project

These subscriptions will allow my students to stay up to date on current events that affect them. By allowing them to delve into literature that is current and affects them, my students will get a chance to understand why reading is so important.

This magazine will not only help them stay up to date with issues that affect them but also help them realize how they can make an impact in their local community.

These subscriptions will also give students a chance to read something other than textbooks and novels which they have negative connotations with. Having opportunities to read other types of literature will allow my students to foster an enjoyment for reading.
