Current Event Weekly Projects!

My students need Junior Scholastic and The New York Times Upfront subscriptions and poster materials to create current event projects!

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Barth's classroom raised $973

My Students

Remember back when you did not watch the news because you thought it was boring and only for adults?! WELL, I am implementing weekly current event poster contests as a way to get my students jazzed about the world!

My students are eager young learners with a true passion for knowledge.

We are a title 1 school in a very under served neighborhood. All children receive free breakfast and lunch, thus asking parents to purchase supplies for weekly projects is not an option. Instead, I turn to you, the people who give passionately to causes you believe in.

My Project

My students will be using these materials to create weekly group current event projects. Each group will be receiving a copy of Junior Scholastic and Up Front along with poster supplies. They will then be asked to read 2-3 articles and create a display on the poster board. They will then present this poster to the class. I think this is a great way to get the kids involved in education, the current events of the world, and at the same time promotes a sense of higher thinking. Being knowledgeable about the world around them is an invaluable skill that must be learned!

My project will make a difference because it will form connections between teenage learners and the world they live in.

Forming these connections and being able to relate to current events is a skill that will help them achieve success long after they graduate middle school.
