My Students

I teach in a low income district where students from various backgrounds come to school to learn. My third-grade students learn in many different ways. Engaging my students in learning is a way for them to forget their troubles and grow and learn to the best of their ability.

My students are comprised of energy, cultural diversity, varying academic abilities, happiness, sadness, and a zest for learning.

They need to be taught in a way that reaches them. They need to be presented information in diverse and engaging ways. The current event articles in Scholastic News, and SuperScience Magazines, along with the up-to-date math learning and activities in DynaMath, would allow my students to stay abreast on important topics and strategies in many areas. I get excited thinking about the conversations and lively debates that will ensue after reading and using these magazines.

My Project

What an interesting and exciting world we live in. Students become encapsulated with learning about current events in the US and around the world. Scholastic magazines provide current topics for students to discover, debate, think about, and to help them create change.

My third grade students do not have exposure to current event topics that are delivered in a way in which they understand.

When I am able to find third grade level current event reading material, I find it very encouraging when a student talks with another student about the topic relating to our world, science and math. They approach the topic with knowledge and can debate about events or situations occurring in our world presently. We need to help strengthen students belief that they can create change by being educated in topics that are important in today's world!
