Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I remember when I was in second grade, all I wanted to do was read all day long. I would like to provide a comfy and cozy space for my students to curl up and be able to read the day away (or as long as time will allow anyways!).
Students are motivated to learn when they feel safe and comfortable in their environment.
The items I have chosen will make a difference in their learning by enhancing the comfort level in the classroom. Soft rugs, pillows, and floor chairs will create an alternative space for students to read and learn other than at their desks.
I have also requested several books written by Brad Meltzer from his "I Am" series to add to my classroom library. These books will be read during social studies, Black history month, and Women's history month. These books will also remain available to my students to read and look at all year long. My goal is to continually expand and diversify my classroom library every year.
I teach second grade which is such a special time to be learning how to read! Each reader grows at different rates. Some students may need a little more time and help with the teacher, while others may flourish quicker being able to read independently. It is my goal to create a space for my students, no matter what reading level, to find peace and quiet to learn at school.
