My Project

I am a special education teacher, teaching students in grades 3-5. My students would love to have a brand classroom library for the 2023-2024 school year!

I teach in rural Georgia, in the special education inclusion setting.

All of the students in my county receive free breakfast and lunch. The one thing that I absolutely love about my students is their passion and desire to learn. Because they are in the special education program, many of them struggle academically and can be shy and reserved in the large group setting. However, when they come to my classroom, they come alive! They love getting to work in a small group and showcase their knowledge with their peers who of the same academic intelligence.

In my classroom, I pull 5-8 students at a time for small group remediation. If students finish their work early, they love to visit the classroom library. This school year, my goal is to make my classroom library cozier by adding a rug. This way, students will be able to relax when reading one of their favorite books.

Honestly, my classroom library needs a makeover to become more organized and for students to have easier access to their favorite books. This is where the barcode scanner comes in handy! Using the scanner, I will be able to keep inventory of the books in my library, loan books to students, and be able to easily assign books to students, based on their individual reading level.

Using the barcode scanner, I will be able to categorize my books by genre and/or level. Using the colored labels, I will be able to group the books by genre and/or reading level. Students will then have a much easier time selecting books to read that interests them or is developmentally appropriate for them.
