In a low-income Indianapolis urban school district, my students are faced with challenges in and out of the classroom. Our elementary school serves over 800 students in kindergarten through sixth grade, with 76% of students receiving free and reduced meals. Despite the many challenges students face, our art classroom is a safe space to explore, collaborate, and learn.
Students from Nigeria, Benin, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and a handful of other countries bring their diverse cultures and unique experiences with them to our school community.
My students love speaking their mind, trying new things, and diving headfirst into new art projects!
I am requesting a classroom document camera to make art even more accessible for my students. We cannot currently explore physical artworks or conduct a demonstration as a full class, due to the limitations of our classroom space and large class sizes.
With an Elmo Classroom Presenter, all of my students can receive instruction at once in a large, easy to see, high-quality format.
We would be able collaboratively explore the details of printed artworks and art tools and materials with full class discussions. With a new doc cam, I would be able to record lessons and demonstrations and post them on Google Classroom for students who are absent or who need subtitles/directions in other languages. If I am absent for the day, recorded demonstrations and instructions would leave my classroom operating as normal, with no break in instruction and less stress on a substitute.
Updated technology would benefit my students by making our classroom more FUNctional. Please consider giving- we would thank you greatly! ¡Gracias! Ese gan! Merci!
