Help me give my students real life virtual fieldtrips to state parks and national parks using a credible Canon Camera. In addition, each child will get a Nature Pack with journals and items to document their nature walks.
My students are working each and every day through this difficult, challenging time of distance learning. Keeping students engaged is key. Thanksgiving was a difficult time for some of my students because of their isoaltion from family and friends. Life during the pandemic.
My non-English speaking students, homeless students, dyslexic, special education, and gifted kids need support on learning how to develop healthy habits from mindset to setting goals.
This is a time where social-emotional development is so important and also dealing with stress. Having lessons and instruction that are highly engaging and something to look forward to is huge! Rewards and incentives are a big part as well in motivating these students.
They are a very large, diverse group of students that are learning from home for various reasons to not be exposed to COVID-19, homeless, or emotional disorders. They are at many different educational levels. They all have various learning styles and needs. Some of my students require additional materials based on their accommodations for speech, special education, dyslexia, ESL, as well as gifted.
I want to do everything possible to make them happy, productive children who have every opportunity life can provide.
My Project
My project was inspired by Doing What Scientists Do: This is What Science Looks Like. Students will learn about protecting the natural world they live in and take nature walks to observe nature's beauty and what it has to offer. Students will learn how to protect plants and animals and the habitats they live in. They will have science journals, art supplies to replicate the colors they see in the world around them. They will see videos from the If/Then Resources and we will walk through Curiosity Camp Activity Sheet and Nature Journal. The Mission Unstoppable: How is the Environment Affecting our Health? and Mission Unstoppable What's Special About Soil?. Students will have baggies in their nature bags to take samples of soil and compare under slides. Leaves and items will be collected and laminated to put in their nature journal.
