This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I believe that "the art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery" like Mark Van Doren states. It is one of the most important aspects of my job. Yes, I instruct my students, but most importantly I believe that I should facilitate their discoveries and curiosity.
Our school is a very special place.
Our teachers strive to best serve each student. Our students are special too. Despite being in a high poverty area they are full of excitement about learning and the world around them. They are motivated and easily inspired to achieve their personal best.
My Project
The chromebooks that I am requesting will help kick off our technology center in the classroom. Currently we have zero computers in our classroom and get to only visit the computer lab once a week. While this is better than nothing, I feel my students are missing out. So many resources are available for them through the use of computers--from reading to learning to discovering to creating. However this is not possible because we do not have sufficient technology available to them.
There are so many sites that I want to share with my students.
Recently I have been looking at different sites that teach young students the basics of coding--it would be amazing that my students can learn to do this during their computer time. I Think it is exposure like this that my students can discover the amazing things they can do with just a bit of creativity and technology.
