My 23 first grade students are growing and learning in the same small community in which I grew up, the place that inspired me to learn, think creatively, and become a teacher! This group of students loves to find answers to questions about the world around them. They enjoy building, creating, and making new discoveries each day. Through educational play and investigations, they are learning how to work as a team, and to make sense of important skills that generate math and science understanding.
Many of my students are on the bus early in the morning and come to school to enjoy school-wide free breakfast.
This can be an hour and a half of bus riding and sitting in the cafeteria for many. This makes for a long morning before we even begin our day of studies, but it hasn't stopped them from coming to class excited to learn and ready to fill their curious minds with new and exciting information!
My Project
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them items to keep them curious on a daily basis. Learning by doing and creating leads to an exciting and stimulating classroom environment students want to return to day after day. These materials will be extremely beneficial for my students. They will be able to come in each day and choose items that interest them and start their day off with a mindset that is geared to learn more.
I have seen how using STEM materials that engage curiosity has positively affected my student's work demeanor throughout the entire day, and believe these additional options will help them grow even more!
