Help me give my students items that will enlighten their curiosity. They can create and explore through hands-on projects such as the LEGO kit and creating beautiful art projects.
My students are special because they bring an uniqueness and challenge themselves to be better. I see them with ability and not disability. My students are 18-21 years old in a transition program with autism so we teach them life skills so they can potentially be independent and not dependent. My students like to do hands on activities along with academics that are meaningful in their future. It is such a great feeling when a student thanks you for having them get out of their comfort zone and be curious about things and not rigid. Now I teach my students remotely which is different but, also, fun because we have our pets interrupt our Google meets. I just had a parent tell me about an art project we were able to do before we went remote, that it was the most beautiful piece of art he has ever created and she has it in her bedroom. Just small things like that warms my heart that my students have ability!
My Project
My students will be able to explore using hands-on materials to feed their curiosities. I want them to explore and be curious about how the world works around them. Their learning intention would be the 3 concepts used in STEM Curiosity, Problem Solving and Communication. The materials will support students in using their senses to learn science concepts and art. They will be able to create concepts using these materials through numerous STEM projects in the books and working as team members. They will be able to observe and report about their observations to their peers.
With Covid, we are not able to move around the school as freely as we used to so we are confined to one classroom and cannot utilize the art room or the science lab.
It would be wonderful to get some hands on projects for art and science to use in the classroom. My students are very creative but it needs to be drawn out them through STEM learning.
