Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are thoughtful, curious, and deeply motivated to understand the world through both historical and scientific lenses. As learners in a medical science magnet high school, they are constantly making connections between the past and the present, especially in areas like public health, environmental justice, and social equity. What makes them special is their drive to explore how history shapes the healthcare systems and scientific advancements they hope to be part of one day.
This project will provide me with professional development resources that will help me design a curriculum tailored to their unique interests and aspirations.
I am requesting the Quarterhouse Black Scientists Poster Set and Women Scientist Posters to visually celebrate the contributions of historically underrepresented scientists in our classroom. The books "An American Genocide", "California Burning", "The Immortal Life" of Henrietta Lacks, and "1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus" will deepen my understanding of Indigenous history, environmental health, medical ethics, and pre-colonial science. These materials will support me in creating lessons that connect history, science, and justice in meaningful and engaging ways.
My goal is to build a curriculum and class library that empowers students to see themselves in both historical narratives and scientific innovation, preparing them for leadership in the fields they’re passionate about.
