This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at our school come from many different backgrounds and experiences. Teaching at a Title I-funded school, I see our students come to us facing many challenges- taking care of younger sisters and brothers, getting themselves up and ready for school each day, worried about their next meal, or if they will be accepted.

It is our job as educators to make sure every student has the opportunity to grow despite where they come from.

Plants are not the only thing we grow at our school! We grow relationships, confidence, and knowledge about the world around us. It doesn't matter who you are or where you come from-you will succeed!

My Project

I work at a title I school and most of my students don't have much food at home. They often come to school hungry or just needing a little extra snack to get through the day.

These items will allow me to curb their appetite and help them focus on learning and not their growling bellies.

When my students have full bellies, they have better behavior and are academically successful. I provide breakfast for late arrivers that miss the cafeteria, snacks two times a day and if my students stay after school for tutoring I also provide them with an additional snack.
