My Project
Is there a better way to challenge and reward students than with good literature coupled with good snacks? Starting in August of '25 our middle school students will be on a mission to begin reading recommended titles from the 20 book Caudill list. The contest rules state that a student must either read independently, read with, or have read to them 3 of the selected titles to be eligible to vote for their favorite. Voting begins in February and the state winner is revealed in March. We have some pretty special students in our small community and about 1/2 of our population live in an unserved public library district, so this opportunity will help serve those in need.
Our goal to challenge our students even more is that we want them to attempt to read all 20 of the titles.
When a student has read and revealed their passing quiz results revealing understanding of the material, they will then be able to enter a drawing for a dozen decorated cupcakes! Drawings will be monthly, so they will have 8 months to complete the task. The more books they read, the more chances they have to win.
Reading quality material will enhance student learning and widen their personal growth when reading about other cultures and life experiences from which they live in our rural community. This year the selection committee has included a wonderful variety from fiction, non-fiction, graphic, and verse. This group of books makes it easy to find a book in their style of reading or to open up their eyes to a new style or genre that they can enjoy and learn from. It will be an exciting year of reading for our middle school students in the library!
