This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Rock Band Club is collaborating across the curriculum again for next year! During the COVID shutdown, Rock Band Club collaborated with the music department to provide keyboards for students to practice with. During the 2025-26 school year, I'm scheduled to share a room with one of the Spanish language teachers.

We're planning to sponsor a Cumbia club for the students, and these percussion instruments provide the beat.

Several years ago, other Rock Band Club students introduced me to the Mirlos from Peru, and while the music sounded cool, I wasn't ready to play that style of music yet. Since then, I've made some progress, and I recently started practicing with a Güiro. It's fun and easy for anyone to get started with. The much more complex rhythms of the Timbales offer a lifetime of opportunity for development.
