My Project

I have many students who are English Language Learners in my room who are just coming to America. With a variety of culture within our class family, students are curious to learn about one another.

Literacy is an important part of learning and what better way to learn about our cultures than through books.

Students love to see pictures that look like them, so when kids in the books dress like them or wear hijabs as they do, they make the connections and are eager to learn.

Having a variety of culturally appropriate literature in our classroom will help students to make connections to learning and see themselves as a valued member in our learning environment.
