Culturally Responsive Picture Books for Culturally Diverse Little People

Help me give my students diversity books to celebrate them. Celebrating children for who they are and the cultures they bring to my classroom. I am on a journey to being the best culturally responsive teacher I can.

My Students

Our students come from a variety of countries and socioeconomic backgrounds. All of our students are receiving free breakfast, lunch and snack. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Detroit.

Each day is a new day, and each child comes to school ready to take on whatever comes next.

As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are just as diverse in their academics. Despite the many challenges, my students have a love of learning.

My Project

I have been working on my masters in early childhood and just took a Diverse Families in Society class. I want to change the books in my Prek Classroom to better reflect the children I teach. I want more books to celebrate girls. I want more books to show them they are smart no matter their gender or their skin color.

Help me celebrate the little people I teach and help them see they are wonderfully made.

Help these children to believe they can be anything they want to be. Help them see they are smart and worthy of great things. Let us celebrate the wonderful diversity in my Preschool classroom!
