This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a group of very active fifth graders. They love to dance, play video games, listen to music, and engage in math and reading games online. I love that my students have grown to respect each other and feel compassion as a class. I encourage my students to be life-long learners and avid readers.
My classroom is a dual language immersion class with a 50/50 model in English and Spanish.
My classroom will have to include both an English and a Spanish library. My students will be reading in both languages equally, but we struggle to find authentic books in Spanish.
My Project
My students are all second language learners, some learning English, some learning Spanish as a second language. They need culturally responsive books in our classroom library. This set provides authentic books in Spanish from all over the world. These are not translations! The set of books will provide my students with a wide variety of views from all over the world in which Spanish is the first language. We really need culturally rich books to spark their love for Spanish and their love for reading. We will use these books in the classroom as well as for home reading. We are currently in "hybrid" model, where students have access to school and will also work remotely from home. This will be a great opportunity to share culturally diverse books with families and our community.
