Culturally Relevant Dollhouse Play

Help me give my students a new dollhouse with new, diverse, posable dollhouse people to help facilitate their play.

My Project

For years, our classroom's dollhouse has been the focal point for students to engage in dramatic play and solving social problems. It is one of students' favorite places to gather with their friends and reenact what they did at home over the weekend, arguments they have had with their siblings, or to just let their imagination run wild. Our current dollhouse is over 10 years old and has faithfully served over 150 students who have come through our classroom. With over 300 hands playing with it, you can imagine it has seen better days.

This new dollhouse will allow for students to reengage with each other and their imagination while engaging with posable people who look like themselves.

One of the reasons our dollhouse is so loved and well used is because it is available to students not only during center time, but also during free choice time. The new people will reflect who our students are and will allow them to engage with new furniture which will lead to new conversations and imagination. This new dollhouse and people will be critical to continue to foster relationships between our students and their language development.
