This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I read this book for the first time over the summer and thought that it was an excellent fit for my students. Since around 70% of them are Latino, many come from immigrant families, and all of them are teenagers, this is well-suited to the students that I am teaching at Fairfax. I think that the various topics that the book covers will provide for rich conversation in our classes and will help students feel not only connected to the material but the school as a community. Most of my students come from high-needs backgrounds, and my goal is to have students read something that is well-written that might reflect an experience similar to their own.
