This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students did a fantastic job this semester and I know they will do well when we start the second semester. They love our classroom library and enjoy picking out books to read for leisure.
I want to include culturally relevant books to add to our library.
Having culturally relevant books is important because they allow readers to see themselves reflected in stories, boosting self-esteem and fostering a sense of belonging. I have Asian students from different countries and having a culturally relevant library in a 2nd-grade classroom is important because it helps create a rich, inclusive learning environment that fosters both academic and social-emotional development.
Children are more motivated to read when they see themselves in the stories. I chose books like, I am Golden, Asian Americans who Shaped This Country, and Bee-bim Bop!
