Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I would love to add some books to my class library that represent the different cultural backgrounds in our dual-language school; I work in a Title I school, where 50% of our students are Latino or come from low-income families, and I believe that in today's globalized world, it is paramount for children to develop cultural understanding and empathy from an early age and see themselves represented in what they are reading. One effective way to foster cross-cultural awareness is through culturally relevant books. These books will not only broaden the horizons of young minds but also encourage inclusivity and acceptance. At the elementary level of education, the importance of culturally relevant books becomes even more pronounced as students delve into deeper academic pursuits.
On a different note, we also need fidgets for our classrooms.
We know that in our fast-paced and demanding academic environment, students often find themselves overwhelmed with anxiety and stress. On top of all that, if we consider that at our school, we have a large population of low-income families, their economic situation might also be impacting the students' performance, adding to the stress and pressure in their young minds. These negative emotions can hinder their ability to concentrate and perform well in school. However, a simple solution can significantly alleviate these issues: fidgets. By occupying the hands with a fidget, the mind becomes more attentive to the task at hand.
Finally, the space to store all of these beautiful books and fidgets would be the bookshelves that will complement this project and would also help the students learn about organization and use of space.
