Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Research indicates that minority students' reading comprehension improves when they read books that align well with their cultural and experiential backgrounds. If the texts used in the curriculum does not adequately represent the cultural knowledge and experiences of children from non-dominant backgrounds, they have fewer opportunities to use their background knowledge and experiences. Therefore, I strongly believe that our classroom library should reflect the background of my students. By doing so, they will be able to make more personal connections and be more engaged in reading. Thank you for supporting our classroom. We appreciate it greatly!
