Ms. Wade from Chicago IL is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a wide variety of books in order to become wonderful readers. This assortment of books will help them on their journey.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Growing up in a low-income area, my students are faced with challenges on a day to day basis. Despite the challenges that are outside their front door, I wish for my students to have a library of books that will carry them away to another place. I want them to get lost in literature.
My students are some of the best children in the world.
Despite their surroundings, they enter the classroom with tons of energy and excitement. They enjoy reading, conducting experiments, and learning with their hands. The school they attend was turned around in 2007. Although the environment, within the school, has changed, the environment outside the building has become worse. Nonetheless, my students have become enormous odds and overcome numerous challenges that they have had to face.
The resources that I have requested include a wide range of books. My goal with selecting these books is to expose my students to the world around them. This includes but is not limited to math exploration, the Hispanic culture, poetry, African American heroes, and more. By selecting the various titles by some of the best children's authors, I strive to open up my students' minds to the world that surrounds their neighborhood. I also wish to give them a desire to seek out and explore on their own. With the books I have selected, the students will engage in whole class read aloud. They will also have the opportunity to check the books out of the classroom library, take them home to read, and grow in their reading ability. From the books I have selected, my students will learn that reading can take you to a new place. It can also inform you of things you never knew. Last, my students will learn that reading goes beyond the classroom. Reading is all around us, and we use it everyday.
Recently, I have encountered adults who were passed through school, shoved in the back of classrooms, and left to their own devices.
As time passed, they became bored and lacked the desire to come to school. A handful of these adults are unable to read. Without the ability to read, the possibility for success is nonexistent. I want my students to have numerous possibilities for success. In order to reach the possibilities, they must learn to read. The books I have selected will help. Thank You.
