Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The year 2023 will be the year of the rabbit. What does that mean? For my students, these words are just words and cute pictures. I would like to continue to teach my students about different beliefs and cultures from around the world. Often, my students see things in stores or on television, but the true meaning of the celebration is not known.

These books and supplies will help me to teach my students about the Chinese New Year, traditions in Chinese culture, and wishes of good fortune.

What does "Gung Hay Fat Choy" mean? Why do we celebrate Chinese New Year with the color red? What is the purpose of the coin with the cut square out of the middle? These questions and more will teach my students about other cultures and traditions. I hope to teach them compassion for others through knowledge of their traditions and by celebrating with the Chinese community. Even after the days of Chinese New Year, we can still celebrate. These books and games will be available for my students to read and play with beyond the days of the Chinese New Year festival.
