Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As I begin my 10th year teaching in Greenfield, CA, I am as thrilled as always to be met with such a unique, hungry, and eager-to-learn group of students every year!
My students make up a Title I district with 98% of them receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
Their community at large is extremely small and made up of many migrant families. Almost all of my students are English language learners with a depth of knowledge beyond what most are willing to see.
However, these truths do nothing to detour their drive to learn. They are enthusiastic about new concepts when given the freedom to show their intelligence in authentic, joyful ways. What better way to do this than through art and play? This year, I strive to bring the joy of learning back to my students. The resources requested in this project will help me gamify my math lessons to allow students opportunities to critique, strategize, and express their thinking authentically through board game-styled manipulative learning. They will also allow my students more creative and artistic ways of presenting their learning of all new academic concepts through visual art construction.
Here is how the items listed will help us achieve our goals this year:
-The canvas', black flair pens, fuse beads, pencil holders, marker sets, crayon sets, student erasers, clear boxes, and stickers will all be used for art. Students will receive individual sets of all items to use for art such as painting, project creation, science model building, and visual art pieces. The laptop stand will be used by students to present projects.
-The laptop stand, puzzle bags, card decks, dice, and counters will be used for gamifying math lessons. Students can share debate-style discussions from the "podium" as well as screen share to lead games.
