My students need innovative, flexible seating options with various tables heights to focus and learn how to be independent livelong learnings and create livelong study habits!
My students are independent learners that enjoy sharing their learning in engaging ways. Through song, dance, body movements, etc., we are always finding ways to remember essential skills and concepts. We are learning to use sketch notes, digital technology, semantic maps, etc. to grow as 21st century learners. My students thrive when we are able to collaborate and learn from one another! As a Title 1 School, the majority of my students are from low income families and do not get the opportunity to interact in creative and new ways at home! Many of them are English Language Learners, or Special Education students, but we come from many different types of families and places around the world.
My students have a desire to create, design, test, and collaborate with their peers.
Recently, they have been allowed 15-20 minutes daily to work on anything associated with reading, writing, and designing. Many of them have designed digital comic strips, created power points that teach game strategies, drafted stories and plays, participated in poetry jams surrounded around symbolism and figurative language. This new block of creative thinking time has empowered them to put learning into their hands.
My Project
Did you know that students spend about 1000 hours a year learning and developing lifelong study habits in their classroom? In my room, that doubles because I loop with my students from fourth to fifth grade. They spend approximately 360 days of their lives in my room over the two years I have them! That is why it is my job to do everything I can to create a space where I can help them develop lifelong habits they can use both in and outside of the classroom. They need a classroom with tables at various heights, different seating options, and a flexible space to learn in.
Today's learners want to be able to learn in an environment that is comfortable and inviting!
The materials in this project have been selected to provide my students opportunities to sit at a floor table, or stand at a marker board table, in addition to collaborating with one another! They include activity tables, padded stools, bar stools, soft seats, plastic stack stools, and clipboards.
My students want to be able to share their learning and collaborate through the use of a flexible space, with flexible seating. Help us make a more inviting and comfortable learning space. After all, they spend more time at school than home!
