My Students

Striving to provide a comfortable and engaging learning environment is my first priority as an educator. In this class, my middle school students are engaged in learning to become better readers and writers.

Sixth grade students are motivated through project-based lessons, student and teacher led learning, and videos to become independent readers of fiction and nonfiction and writers of explanatory and argumentative texts.

No two students are the same, as each loves to read a different genre. In this inclusive classroom, content is presented through interdisciplinary learning, project-based learning, whole group and small group instruction. Our school is heavily driven by data and student growth, so watching my students’ progress in reading and writing throughout the school year is extremely rewarding.

My Project

Born in Malawi, a country fighting drought and hunger, William Kamkwamba dreams of creating a different life for his family and friends. Living with very little, William tinkers and repairs radios for fun. William uses his curiosity and scrap materials to develop a miracle, and his determination changed the lives around him.

This novel is a true story about invention and innovation, as well as determination and the power to overcome adversity.

The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind exposes the geography, religion, poverty, culture of a different region of the world. This novel also conveys grade appropriate themes, science and technology. Additionally, William's story pairs with other text sets, including fiction and nonfiction, to expose students to varied mix of genres.
