Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my diverse and vibrant school community, many English Language Learners face unique challenges in grasping abstract scientific concepts due to language barriers and limited exposure to life science experiences.
My proposed grant aims to bridge this gap by integrating hands-on gardening activities and observation of insect life cycles into the curriculum.
By providing essential supplies, we can create engaging learning experiences that foster deeper understanding and connection with scientific principles.
Objectives:
1. Enhance Science Curriculum: Integrate practical gardening and insect observation activities into the science curriculum to reinforce key concepts such as life cycles, ecosystems, and biodiversity.
2. Engage English Language Learners: Provide ELL students with opportunities to actively participate in experiential learning that aligns with their linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
3. Promote Ownership and Empowerment: Cultivate a sense of ownership and pride among students by allowing them to nurture plants from seed to maturity and observe the complete life cycles of insects.
Engaging in hands-on activities will foster curiosity and enthusiasm for learning among ELL students, leading to higher levels of engagement in the classroom. Students will develop a sense of ownership and responsibility for their learning as they actively participate in nurturing plants and observing insect life cycles.
The requested funds will be used to procure gardening supplies (seeds, soil, pots) and insect refill supplies (habitats, magnifiers, educational materials).
By investing in gardening and insect refill supplies, we can cultivate a deeper connection between students and the natural world while promoting academic success and cultural inclusivity.
Thank you for considering my grant proposal. I am excited about the potential impact of this project on the educational experiences of my English Language Learners.
