Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are curious and energetic 4 and 5-year-olds. This is the first school experience for all of my students. They are excited to be in school, but they are also learning how to navigate friendships. In addition, they are also learning how to deal with separation from their families while they are in school for 6 1/2 hours a day.
Sometimes, the school can feel overwhelming and you just need to take a break.
The Kindness Kit is filled with items to help soothe a child when they need to calm down, such as the Cuddle Ball. When they slip their arms in it, it gives them a hug. I have set up a Calm Corner in my classroom. My students know that they can go there when they need to take a break. I have a few items there to help them regulate their emotions, but the items in this kit would be a great addition. I know my students will love to sit and watch the Rainbow Liquid Sensory Viewers as the colored drops float down. Many of these items will be especially helpful to my students on the autism spectrum.
In addition to instilling calmness, the kit will also help students learn to be more compassionate. The Fill a Bucket kit and book will increase students' awareness of the feelings of others. All of the items in the kit will help create calmer and more compassionate kids. And that will help create a calmer and more compassionate world.
