This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing. They are hard working and caring. They brighten my days and continue to amaze me with each leap we take. They love the hands-on and student lead learning that Living STEAM provides them. They are eager to work collaboratively and driven to provide creative ideas and twists to all of our projects.

Our school is a new community school in an area of Reno where families struggle to make ends meet.

Students are often left alone to fend for themselves in all areas of life. School, emotional struggles, financial hardship, sibling responsibilities all plague these students. For some of them school is their safe space and where they come to be kids.

What is Living STEAM you ask? Living STEAM is a hands-on approach to learning basic life skills through the STEAM approach. We develop skills in nutrition, cooking and baking, daily living, budgeting, fitness, and safety. The class is student interest lead, making it a great fit for all students.

My goal is to provide students with all necessary materials to be successful in my class, including offsetting perishable food fees.

My Project

Knife Skills are not just learning to cut food. It is a technique that requires skills and precision. I want my students to wow the world using perfected knife cuts that can only be obtained with practice and the proper tools. Good knives, gloves, and mercer rulers are essential for any aspiring cheer or kitchen worker.

Students need tools for success.

Mercer rulers (in the kit) that can practice measuring the correct sizing of the food pieces and correct shapes for professional cutting skills. Professional knives that can be sharpened to make precise cuts and safety gloves to protect hands and fingers from scared, apprehensive hands.

Safety is our number one priority while we build confidence and creativity in the artistic classroom.
