My wonderful 3rd-grade students come to me with many diverse backgrounds and needs, but all have one thing in common: they love to learn and enjoy adventures together!
I teach at a rural Title I school where over 50% of our students receive free or reduced lunch.
My students are so wonderful! They bring such positive attitudes into the classroom, and I can't wait to help them see a broader view of our local culture. While some of my students have had the chance to travel, several have not yet been to Seattle. Taking a trip to the Tillicum Village, with the bus ride into Seattle and the ferry boat ride, will be a highlight that will bring our local culture up close and personal for my students.
Focusing on making education engaging, enriching, and meaningful will have a tremendous positive impact on my students' future success as learners and as people.
After a bus ride to Seattle, a ferry sails us to beautiful Blake Island and Tillicum Village.
My Project
As part of our social studies curriculum, we have the pleasure of studying the wonderful local culture of the Northwest Coastal Indians. This trip to Tillicum Village is an invaluable step in ensuring my students cement a lifelong understanding of all we have studied and will also aid in continuing to develop their knowledge of diversity and tolerance in our world.
At Tillicum Village my students will have the opportunity to see, hear, and taste local Native American culture through art, dance, storytelling, and food.
This trip will bring everything we have been studying to life and create even more of an appreciation of the proud culture of the Northwest Coastal Indians.
