This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My senior students are very inquisitive; they love to debate and explore issues that affect their community. Each year we do a unit on the legal system and the role of juries in our democracy.

This project will help my students to enhance their critical thinking skills as they examine complex SEL and CRSE issues.

From the opening of the play, the writing shows how both the juror’s motivations and their conceptions of justice are influenced, not entirely rationally or even consciously, by their personalities and experiences. The men are anything but dispassionate when the deliberation process reveals their irrationalities and biases and makes them confront them.

My students will not only explore the jury system, but our intrinsic motivations and how stereotypes and environment influence our thought processes.
