it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
"Crossing the Bridge: An Initiative for Bilingual Books" is a dedicated program to support Latino families in nurturing early literacy through access to bilingual books. Recognizing many families' challenges in balancing language learning and literacy, our initiative gives parents the tools to read with their children in Spanish and English. This approach promotes language development in both languages and strengthens the parent-child bond by encouraging meaningful conversations around stories, culture, and learning.
By offering bilingual books, we aim to break down language barriers that can often hinder reading experiences at home.
Some of our titles include "Brown Bear, Brown Bear," "Let's Be Friends," "We Play Soccer," and "Feelings." These books serve as bridges between generations, enabling families to honor their cultural roots while embracing English language skills. Through shared reading, children build confidence in both languages, making literacy a more inclusive, enjoyable, and enriching experience for the entire family.
Crossing the Bridge goes beyond just providing books; it fosters an environment where families feel empowered to participate actively in their children's learning journey. Giving parents the resources and confidence to read aloud and discuss stories creates a foundation for lifelong learning, encouraging creativity and developing critical thinking skills in young children. This initiative is designed to cultivate a deep love of books, literacy, and cultural pride, crucial to a child’s academic and personal growth.
Our mission is to ensure that every family, regardless of background, has access to these essential tools. By fostering a supportive community around bilingual literacy, Crossing the Bridge is helping families take the first step toward educational success and a brighter, bilingual future for their children.
